Cost: approximately 20 US dollars. You can pay in dollars; no need to change the money at the airport. Usually it will take approximately 30 minutes to get to our place from the airport. Take only an official taxi, do not go with a "gypsy" cab even if it costs less. It is not safe to do it. Give the taxi driver the following information:

I am going to Barrio Amón in San José. |
| In Spanish: |
Take the highway #1 from the airport to San Jose Centrum. Highway will end at Parque Sabana. Continue with the main traffic and you will turn to Paseo Colon heading towards center of the city. Go with the traffic, passing on the right big hospital San Juan de Dios and turning right into Avenida Secunda (2nd Ave). This is the main Avenue crossing the city East - West. Stay on the left lane. After a while you will pass the Cathedral on the right and then on the left Grand Hotel and National Theater. Right after that make left turn on Calle 5 (5th Street). Continue 7 blocks on Calle 5 up to 11th Avenue ( on the right side you will pass Holliday Inn at Parque Morazan). On 11th Avenue turn left, go one block (on the right side you will see big hotel Clarion, formaly Amon Plaza hotel), and then turn left again. We are located in the middle of the block on the left side of Calle 3 bis (Street 3bis), between Avenues 9 and 11.
It is possible to get to the center of San José by bus. The bus fare is approximately US $1. In this case you would need to change your money to the local currency at the airport. The bus stop is in front of the airport building. Probably it would be a good idea to ask somebody who is working there about the bus and how much is the fair. There are many buses on this stop going different places, so be sure you get on the right one. Ask for the bus going to the center of San José, get off at the final stop. You will be on Avenida 2, calle 10. Ask locals how to get to our place as indicated above. You may take a cab for this short trip. It would cost you approximately 2 US dollars or less. We would not recommend to travel by bus at night or with a big luggage.
Calles, or streets, run from north to south in San José. Those east of Calle Central have odd numbers; those west of Calle Central are even numbered. Avenidas run East to West. Those north of Avenida Central have odd numbers; those south are even-numbered. Usually, Avenida and Calle numbers are posted on buildings at each corner in the city.
SanJosé has grown to a hustling, exciting city. Enjoy it - with some care. Like any metropolitan area, the city has attracted its share of petty thieves and pickpockets. Guard your wallet and purse, especially in crowds. Do not leave your car unlocked nor valuables inside a locked car. Use standard traveler's caution, but don't sacrifice friendliness, or you will miss out on the kindness and humor of some of the world's most congenial people.
If you are lost give us a call from any public phone. You
